Everesting, story of one hill

Everesting, story of one hill

For the past 5 years, I was in pursuit of long bike journeys that allowed me to cross high mountains, deep forests and travel wide distances. I slept short, biked long and (in a way) enjoyed every moment. But this time I prepared for a different challenge myself. Riding up one hill, again and again, meter by meter, to achieve the highest mountain on Earth – 8848 meters. It’s lucky we’re not on Mars.

Carpatia Divide 2019, day #3 – When I was crossing endless meadows

Carpatia Divide 2019, day #3 – When I was crossing endless meadows

I was awake long before the alarm clock. But to have your eyes open is one thing and getting out of the sleeping bag is another. It took me half an hour of convincing to get the job done. It wasn’t easy to pack all my things, including the rescue blanket which changed from a small square to a huge piece of trash. The cold helped me with the speed.

Carpatia Divide 2019, day #2 – How can one zapiekanka change the whole race

Carpatia Divide 2019, day #2 – How can one zapiekanka change the whole race

Even though I slept 1200 metres above the sea level, I wasn’t cold. It was better than in a valley next to a river. I had four walls, with little holes, and it gave me enough isolation from the outside. I had a bird family that was protecting me from the danger outside. Or at least, I believed they were.

Carpatia Divide 2019, day #1 – When I was terribly wrong

Carpatia Divide 2019, day #1 – When I was terribly wrong

I signed up for Carpatia Divide at the end of April. There wasn’t much information, because it was the first year of the event. For some time I was actually thinking it’s some kind of scam for too-enthusiastic bikers. From what I understood, there was a precedent race called Transparatia, which was more or less ordinary mountain bike stage race. But CD was going to be a classic bikepacking adventure in a remote location and without any kind of support – as I like it.

How I started to run slowly

How I started to run slowly

It is really hard to slow down in running. It is competition after all and even during the training no one wants to be defeated. But this year I was forced to throw away my pride and learn myself how to run at a slow pace.

Race 1000 Miles Adventure, day #9 – How I made it to the half

Race 1000 Miles Adventure, day #9 – How I made it to the half

The ninth day was the last and one of the toughest. I nearly froze in Jeseníky mountains and flew over my handlebars. My landing was for zero points.

Race 1000 Miles Adventure, day #8 – How I coudn’t trust my GPS

Race 1000 Miles Adventure, day #8 – How I coudn’t trust my GPS

The eighth day was one of the best in the race. It was nice to have some rest before the second checkpoint. I was told that the Czech part is harder than the Slovak one, but I have to say that the roads there were much easier.

Race 1000 Miles Adventure, day #7 – How I escaped from Slovakia

Finally, I left Slovakia. I can’t say it was ugly, but they pay by euros, on their signs is some weird font and home is home. I didn’t know that time that I will taste ambience of the music festival.

Race 1000 Miles Adventure, day #6 – How I threw my bike to a scarp

I planned an easy ride for the sixth day. I didn’t want to look devastated at the first checkpoint. But the track was more complicated than I expected … as always.

Race 1000 Miles Adventure, day #5 – How I was constantly challenging myself

Day five was the longest of them all. The weather made fun of me. When I was packing my equipment before the race I didn’t think about winter and this was a revenge.
